Less than five months after reaching the MLS Apex, the galaxy cannot find their marshy path.
The Winners in defense of the MLS Cup continued with their nightmare season, losing a 1-0 route match against Austin FC on Saturday to stay without victory in nine championship games.
Brandon Vazquez converted the winning goal in the 81st minute to abandon the Galaxy, which had just released a 1-1 draw against Houston Dynamo last weekend, at 0-6-3 (three points).
Barely 11 minutes earlier, Vazquez was suffocated on a penalty kick after the defender of the Galaxy John Nelson sparked Osman Bukari inside the box. Galaxy McCarthy Dove goalkeeper left for the safeguard to keep the match without goal.
Vazquez quickly redeemed, redirecting a flow of Owen Wolfe from the left after McCarthy for the decisive score.
McCarthy made five stops for the galaxy, which had little time to enjoy a man’s advantage after the Brendan Hines-ike de Verde was sent with his second yellow card for a bad sporting spirit with four remaining minutes.
Brad Stuver stopped four shots for his fifth bleaching of the season for Austin FC (5-1-3, 16 points), which was rout 5-1 by Vancouver last week.
The Galaxy, whose only victory this season occurred on March 12 as one of the four games of the Concacaf Champions Cup, will then play in Portland at 6 p.m. on April 27 at Dignity Health Sports Park.
