The giants made their first movement of the alignment on Saturday, putting the inner field player Casey Schmitt on the list of wounded of 10 days with a left oblique tension.
Schmitt was announced as leaving on Friday evening, but was scratched in favor of Lamonte Wade Jr.
“It happened just before the match, hitting in the cage, probably 25 minutes before the match,” said Giants manager Bob Melvin, after a 2-0 defeat against the Los Angeles Angels.
Inner field player David Villar was promoted to Sacramento to take his place.
It was the first transaction of the season for the Giants, who, under the president of baseball operations, Buster Posey tried to bring more stability to the Big League Club both in terms of range and sending players to minors. He has paid so far with a 13-7 sheet before Saturday night’s match against the Angels.
Last season at April 19, the Giants had made six movements of alignment.
Schmitt mainly played the first base this season the days when Lamonte Wade Jr. is rested. His defense was a pleasant surprise, but Schmitt only struck .174 (4-in-24) without circuits and two points produced. Wade has been in a horrible collapse since the start of the season and the match on Saturday evening against the Los Angeles Angels hits 0.096 (5 for 52) with a circuit, seven produced points, eight walks and a basic percentage of 0.213.
Villar struck 0.368 in Sacramento with a home run, seven products produced, 13 ball goals, one .439 in a basic percentage in 15 games. After 23 games in the spring, Villar was appointed for assignment before the start of the season and exceeded Sacramento on March 29.
Like Schmitt, Villar positioned versatility, having played 44 career games at the third base and 27 each in the second goal and the first goal.
The other option at the first basis for the Giants Wilmer Flores, who has been exclusively a hitherto designated so far and leads the National League with 23 points produced to accompany six circuits and an average of the stick of .225.
The giants also transferred the ORR -ENCARNACION (wrist surgery) from the 60 -day injured list.
Gemme “ wasted ” from webb
The right -hander Logan Webb obtained his first defeat of the season a night where he withdrew 12 strikers and did not work anyone, abandoning a deserved point in six heats.
“Feel like a wasted pitch effort,” Melvin told journalists. : He abandons a deserved race, strikes 12, does not walk anyone. It is a very good performance.
According to Elias Sports, webb has only become the fourth giant launcher since the launcher’s mound was moved to its current distance in 1893 to have 10 stick withdrawals and no promenade. He joined Madison Bumgarner (12 times), Tim Lécecum (five times) and Juan Marichal (four times).
“I look at these guys,” said webb. “Whenever you are on a list with these guys, you do something good.”
Although rarely breaking 95 miles per hour of speed, webb generated 16 swings and missing with a lead, a change and a sweeper. In 30 rounds, webb has 38 stick withdrawals and an average deserved racing of 2.40.
He withdrew the Angels hitter, Mike Trout, three times.
“Mike Trout loves the ball and Logan is a down launcher, but there is a subtle movement in both directions now,” said Melvin. “There is a big movement with the sweeper and he launches enough in the area. Another feather in his cap this evening.”
While webb has admitted that it would exchange the effectiveness of stick withdrawals – deploring the amount of land it missed by a wide margin while in the count – it was encouraged by the movement on its change.
“I am super excited by change,” said Webb. “It is the most confident that I have felt for a long time on this ground, at the end of 2023. I must continue to trust it, keep this confidence.”
Notes
– The central defender Jung Hoo Lee dropped a perfect draft on the third baseline of his first stick with Luis Rengifo playing deeply and on the left. If he had scrambled it with a little more strength, it would probably have been a double.
Lee reduced .361 / .420 / .653 (1,073 ops) with 10 doubles, one triple, three circuits, 14 products produced, three interceptions and 19 points in 19 games. The last giant striker to have an OPS of 1,070 or more at 19 games was Posey in 2021 (1.175).
– The defeat of the Giants Friday evening was only their second to a team from the American League against eight victories.
