LOS Angeles – The shooting of the Angel City football club in the history of the team was short on Friday evening.
Last season Angel City won consecutive matches just two times in a 26 game season. After having opened its consecutive doors this season, Angel City won victories against the Reign and Houston Dash of Seattle and entered the meeting on Friday evening with the Gotham FC in search of his first sequence of three consecutive victories.
It was not the fact that Gotham FC put the match aside with three goals in the second half and left with a 4-0 victory in front of 18,465 at the BMO Stadium, handing over to Angel City (2-1-2, eight points) his first defeat of the season.
“Obviously, we are disappointed with the result,” said midfielder Alanna Kennedy. “It was a little disappointing to abandon this second goal. In a way, it killed our momentum and I think it was difficult for us to recover at that time of the match.
“In the end, that is part of the process. We have been proud of the performances so far. It is only a bump on the road and we will overthrow it quickly. The team mentality is always positive.”
The big stroke of Gotham came in the 67th minute. Lily Reale, a recruit from UCLA, had a crossing of around 30 yards struck the defender of Angel City Miyabi at the head. The ball then sailed high and towards the goal, escaping the angel goalkeeper City Angelina Anderson for an advance of 2-0 Gotham.
“I think the score line is worse than performance,” said interim coach Sam Hury. “The second goal really deflated us … We were by ascending at that time, put them under pressure, we had the ball in their half of the field … So the timing (of the goal) and just nature … Cross, the defender tries to direct it 25 meters. This is the bursting of our bubble. “
Less than 10 minutes later, visitors added a third goal on Esther Gonzalez’s head from a corner kick. Geyse was 4-0, equaling Gotham’s goal production in the first four games of the season.
Gotham (2-1-2, eight points) opened the scoring in the 18th minute on a shot by Gonzalez who hit the post and passed over the line. It was only the second time this season that Angel City was hanging out in a match.
Angel City’s offensive, who played without striker Alyssa Thompson, has never made a lot of attack. Thompson, who headed the team with three goals, was out with what was called a “upper leg” injury.
Gisele Thompson moved from his rear place outside in his sister’s place on the wing. Miyabi was then brought to take Gisele position.
The laity said that Aalyssa Thompson would be fine for next week, but that the staff did not want to risk anything on Friday.
Angel City had very little offensive life in the first half and it postponed the second half. Angel City ended without any blow to the goal in the match and according to post-match statistics, saw the ball very little.
Angel City started the week as one of the four undefeated NWSL clubs at 14 teams in the first four weeks. Two of these teams (Orlando Pride and Washington Spirit) are played on Saturday and they are also the next opponents of Angel City, both on the road. Angel City visits the reigning champion Orlando next Friday, followed by a match against 2024, Washington finalist on May 2.
“The culture of this group is so positive and so strong that I have no fear or concern about what this result will do,” said the laity. “Seples the performance result. I don’t think that does nothing but provide additional motivation to players to bounce back from this. I was in environments before where it would have been a great success, and rightly. I will say that culture in this group is very, very positive. It is an elite culture.”
Angel City will again face Gotham later this season on September 7 in New Jersey.
