Huntington Beach – Huntington Beach’s baseball team sometimes seemed to have traveled the first rounds of its Sunset League match against Los Alamitos on Friday at Huntington Beach High School.
And then, apparently at will, the Oilers, who are classified n ° 1 in the County of Orange, decided that it was time to create a certain separation between them and the scratches n ° 4, and that is exactly what they did.
Hutington Beach opened a tight match with three circuits at the end of the round, including a two-point shot from the signatory of the University of San Diego, Jayton Greer, and remained unbeaten in the championship with a 7-2 victory.
Greer added a single, a double and four points produced while the Oilers (18-2, 11-0) swept the series of three games with the Griffins (15-7-2, 8-7).
“From our point of view as coach staff, I still don’t think we have played our best baseball,” said Oilers coach Benji Medire. “I always think there are things that we do not do as well as I have seen us in the past.”
Oilers used three pitches.
Leaving Tyler Bellerose granted two points and four strokes in three rounds. Jake Frohn gave two strokes with three stick withdrawals and did not allow his three heats to run, and Freddie Angiuli launched the seventh.
Of the seven teams of the Sunset League, the Oilers granted the least point from afar, abandoning 17 points through 11 championship games and 41 points during the 20 games.
The use of two or more launchers in a game is a strategy that the medal has used throughout the season.
“They are by the committee, and you know, there is not an absolute stallion,” said Medire. “There are a lot of launchers really, very good who are proud of what they do, and they push themselves. It’s fun to look at them in training. And they love each other and then they push, so I think it’s a large part of the success of our team.”
During the first round, Greer doubled in CJ Weinstein and Ethan Porter to give the Oilers an advance of 2-0.
The griffins equaled the scoring on a double Rbi of Rowan Shelley in the second and a Wyatt Joyce Single in the third.
Huntington Beach led 3-2 in the fifth when Greer’s circuit was 5-2.
Trevor Goldenetz and Weinstein opened the sixth with consecutive circuits to store the match for the Oilers.
Keeping a single threads was the key to the success of the plates this season, said Greer.
“We thought that being the simplest would get the best results and this is the case,” said Greer. “So we went to a field at a time and hit the ball hard somewhere.”
The Oilers and second place in Newport Harbor (17-5, 9-3) compete in a large series of three games (April 22, 23 and 25) which will probably determine the champion of the Sunset League.
