The American Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) clearly said they will not put any policy for the eligibility of transgender athletes in preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games despite a growing discussion on the controversial subject in recent years.
The Director General Sarah Hirshland approached Thursday after the committee organized her first meeting of the board of directors of the year. “It would not be appropriate. It is not our role to assume this position,” said Hirshland The guardian.

The USOPC had revealed that it had received “important insurance” from the White House concerning the visas of athletes at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games after an internal memo showed that the administration of US President Donald Trump was planning to introduce radical travel restrictions.
The memo last month listed 41 countries which could be subject to suspensions of partial or complete visa, potentially complicating the effort to host matches, with thousands of athletes, coaches, staff and tourists who should travel.
USOPC leadership said they met the legislators and members of Trump’s administration last week to discuss a wide range of questions about American sport.
“It is very clear that, at the top of the administration, they want it to be an incredibly successful experience for all the Americans and all the athletes and visitors who come frankly from all the countries of the world,” Sykes told journalists.
“They understand what it means to welcome the Olympic Games, so we have had important insurance on the work they are going to do with us to manage the visa process so that it works well for athletes and their appropriate entourage.”
How the position of the USOPC on transgender athletes defies the US President Trump
An unrehaved subject was the question of visas for qualified transgender athletes, after Trump said that he would not allow transgender competitors in the 28 games.
Trump signed a decree in February aimed at excluding transgender girls and women from female sports, coming up against international standards.

The IOC has long refused to apply a universal rule on the participation of transgender for games, asking the international federations in 2021 to propose their own directives.
“(We) did not discuss the question and our general discussion on the visas is to ensure that we have as much support from the administration, the State Department that we can receive, and the insurance has been very wide,” said Sykes.
Olympic officials of Los Angeles 2028 told Reuters at the end of last year that they were convinced that the American federal government would hold its promise to support the games.
