Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KB) will pass the next step to become world champion when he faces the former average weight champion of WBC Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KB) on June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, in California. Friday, the most precious promotions revealed details on the fight in ESPN.
The fight at 10 laps, which MVP will co-promotion with Golden Boy Promotions of Oscar de la Hoya, will be disputed at a weight limit of 200 pounds and in the air on Dazn Pay-Per-View.
“Five years ago, I entered the ring for my professional beginnings after a single amateur fight, and each fight since has been a step towards world champion. I have just defeated the most mean man on the planet, and now I am going to a former champion that Conman Canelo could not finish,” said Jake Paul, 28, in a statement in ESPN.
“Chávez Jr. is Mexican, but I, El Gallo de Dorado, I have the will and the heart of the great Mexican fighters. On Saturday June 28, live on Dazn Pay-Per-View, I will eliminate Julio and make Chávez Sr. proud of Woman Woman Jr. Never.”
The announcement of combat occurs just a few months after a proposed fight between Paul and Canelo Alvarez collapsed at the 11th hour in favor of an agreement of four fights with the season of Riyadh. Paul then continued a fight with Gervonta “tank” Davis. However, Davis’ controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in March has derailed these plans, because it is now planned that Davis will continue an immediate revenge match with Roach. With two successful events collapsing, Paul turned to a former world champion and the son of a boxing legend in Chavez.
“CHAVEZ JR. has always appeared on the short list of fighters Jake Paul has targeted,” said the co-founder of the MVP, Nakisa Bidarian, in ESPN. “After Tyson’s fight, the original plan was to fight Chavez Jr. Then. However, Canelo’s opportunity arose and we took a break under discussion with Chavez.”
Chavez, 39, will be the second former world champion which Paul faced, although the previous champion to lose against the former Youtuber won his first world championship for a decade before the birth of Paul. In November 2024, Paul won a unanimous decision against former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, 58, in a record event on Netflix. Chavez organized a major world title for the last time in 2012. Since the loss of WBC title against Sergio Martinez in 2012, Chavez’s career was unequal and inconsistent, the Mexican going 8-6 after starting with a record of 46-0-1.
Chavez’s performances have considerably reduced significantly, with a unilateral defeat against Alvarez in 2017 and an embarrassing loss against former MMA champion Anderson Silva in 2021. He was in action for the last time on the fight against Paul’s fight with Mike Perry last July when Chavez exceeded MMA Uriah Hall in a six -round fight. Although Chavez is far from the form he had at the start of his career, the former champion believes that his problems are behind him and that he can bring back “El Gallo”.
“First of all, I’m going to show what I can do now that everything is in the right place in my life and physically,” said Chavez. “I feel rejuvenated and 10 years younger. Secondly, I would like to thank MVP for taking the risk of fighting me. Unfortunately for their problem child, they will have a big problem in June-one, they will not know how to solve. I hope that when I beat him, people will not underestimate this victory.”
In the co-printing event, the Cruiserweight Unified Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (47-1, 30 KB) champion of Golden Boy promotions will defend his titles against the former unified champion Yuniel Dorticos (27-2, 25 KB).
Ramirez won the WBO and WBA titles in 2024 after a mandate in Super Middleweight where he held the WBO title from 2016 to 2018 before leaving to go to the light heavyweight. Ramirez’s only defeat came against the current champion of light heavy goods vehicles Dmitry Bivol in November 2022. Cuba struggle, Dorticos is a former Cruiserweight champion on a sequence of three fights victories.
“Once again, Golden Boy proves that we are ready to work with anyone to offer the most important and most exciting events of boxing. We are delighted to associate ourselves with Jake Paul, Nakisa Bidarian, the most precious promotions, and Dazn to bring this blockbuster evening to Golden Boy.
Paul and the Hoya share a common enemy in the CEO of the UFC, Dana White, who will hold the UFC 317 during the International Week of International Promotion Combat opposite Paul-Chavez Jr. in T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
“I am delighted to work with Oscar de la Hoya, who is the only veteran to successfully exploit a promotional company,” said Bidarian. “Like Jake Paul, Oscar has his enemies, but it is because the two move the needle as very few do and are not afraid to say their thought.”
