Inter Milan reached the semi-finals of the Champions League with a global 4-3 victory against Bayern Munich after a 2-2 2-2 draw on the second floor of their equality in the quarterfinals in San Siro on Wednesday.
The Italians will then face Barcelona, whom they defeated in the semi-finals in 2010 before beating Bayern in the final to finish the triple, and the Simone Inzaghi team is still on the right track to repeat this feat this season.
It was a far and comfortable evening for Inter, but they did just enough in a thrilling confrontation between the best teams of Serie A and La Bundesliga.
Bayern takes an aggressive but prohibited beginning
Bayern, which lost the 2-1 game, was the most aggressive side of the off, with Yann Sommer who saved a gunshot from Thomas Mueller very early.
An error by Nicolo Barella allowed Mueller to steal possession and play a pass in Michael Olise, but Alessandro Bastoni cut the ball from his toe before he could shoot.
Inter got closer to a rolled shot from Hakan Calhanoglu remotely, but then needed a desperate defense after Konrad Laimer’s withdrawal from the signature.
Matteo Darmian blocked Mueller’s shot and Sommer saved Leroy Sane’s rebound effort, and the team went relentlessly at the break.
Bayern’s first attack on the second half led Harry Kane to score his 11th goal from this season’s competition.
Leon Goretzka played the ball in Kane who took his time before setting up a wide angle shot which he sent through the Dimarco legs and in the most distant corner.
The joy of Bayern lasted every six minutes, while Lautaro Martinez scored from a corner. His first effort on the head came back from Joshua Kimmich and the internal striker was not mistaken with his rebound shoot.
Inter went in search of a goal of killing Bayern and found it within three minutes. Darmian had a shot clear from the line by Eric Dier and the corner resulting Benjamin Pavard propelled a head in front of Jonas Urbig.
Bayern, however, refused to give in, and after a short corner, Serge Gnabry launched a bullet in the box and the attempt to Dier at the head of the signature ended up finding the net.
With 14 minutes remaining, a nervous end was guaranteed. Sommer made a backup of dive deeply in additional time and the hosts maintained and for the first time that the Germans failed to free themselves to interneen and left the competition.
