Gracie Abrams is perhaps a Top-10 pop star who was raised by a successful film director, but she said that her fame was light in the shade of her mentor and friend, Taylor Swift.
In her ascent to renown for the general public, Abrams, 25, was subject to a lot of control over her love life (she would have dated the star of “Gladiator II” Paul Mescal) and her family (she faced accusations “Nepo Baby” “accusations thanks to her father, JJ Abrams, including television broadcasts” Nepo like “Lost” and the main cinema franchises as “Star Wars” “Star Trek”).
However, in Billboard’s new coverage, Abrams said that spending time with Swift puts his own experience in the eye of the public in perspective.
“It’s like, I really don’t have it so bad in terms of invasion of privacy, do you know what I mean?” Said Abrams. “I have the impression of having learned a lot from her, of course, but one of the things I had the chance to observe, that is how extremely it can be (for her). It helps to cut my own shit.”
However, this does not mean that Abrams does not host rapid ambitions.
The two musicians became close when Swift enlisted Abrams as one of his acts of opening on the Eras tour; They ended up collaborating on a duo nominated in Grammy (“we”) and share the scene several times during the record hike of the Record stadium of Swift.
When asked if she hoped for the head of her own stadium tour in the future, Abrams replied: “Hell yeah.”
“I could never imagine myself admitting it,” continued Abrams. “I think I had the privilege of opening for Taylor in the stadiums that we have played, to have a visual reference now and a real sense of what it does to be on a scene in this environment … It is something that I miss and desperately hopes to win over time.”
Abrams also said that, like Swift, the control she had faced not changed her approach for meetings or writing diaristic songs. “It would be so unhappy,” she told Billboard.
Abrams published his first EP, “Minor”, in 2020, which served as early lyric inspiration for Olivia Rodrigo (who became another close friend after the opening of Abrams for Rodrigo’s sour tour).
In addition to the praise of his peers, Abrams also attracted criticism for songs like “I Miss, I’m sorry” in 2020 and “Rockland” in 2021 – but she did not fell the top 10 of Billboard Hot 100 until last year with “That’s so True”. The surprise success was released as a luxury track of his second album, “The Secret of Us”, which also gave fans like “I Love You, I’m Sorry” and “Risk”.
In March, Abrams was honored as a composer of the year at the annual Women in Music event in Billboard, where Abrams thanked “the incomparable Miss Taylor Swift”.
“I will never stop thanking her for the gift of her pen,” said Abrams, “which raised me a lot”.
