Sometimes the international break comes at the wrong time.
For Angel City FC, it was last week.
Angel City, undefeated with two draws in the first two games of the season, entered the break by driving the summit of his first victory after defeating Seattle’s Reign. This is the best section of three Angel City games to open the season since its inaugural season that saw the team win six points, winning two of the first three games and a welcome change after the start of 0-1-2 of last season.
“The most important thing for us, especially in practices, has been really to be unraveled about little things,” said defender Ma Vignola. “Even at the end of the matches when we know that we are tired, the other teams are tired, it is at this point that we do not want to lose concentration. This is what happened a lot in the past and now we are able to cross the games and stay as concentrated as possible.”
In total, nine Angel City players left for international service: Claire Emslie (Scotland), Alanna Kennedy (Australia), Casey Phair (South Korea) and Alyssa and Gisele Thompson (USWNT) joined their respective senior national teams.
Angelina Anderson joined Uswnt Camp as a training player and Savy King (US U-23S), Bre Norris (Mexico U-23) and Kennedy Fuller (US U-19) joined their national youth teams.
“It was a very busy week for staff and players last week,” said Angel City’s acting coach Sam Main. “Now we have taken the area and plan to play a game on weekends and it always adds a little additional spices to training and the environment.”
On Saturday, Angel City (1-0-2, 5 points) will try to resume where he stopped during his visit to the Houston Dash (1-1-1, 4 points).
“We are quite satisfied with the way things go so far,” said Vignola. “This is a turnaround of what the start of our season was last year, so it’s definitely in UP at the moment. We have improved every match, and I think our best exhibition was against Seattle.
“We were able to show good moments, the first two games, but it all started to start again in this third match. We are delighted and happy to have five points at the moment. We are somehow at the top of the table, but we have a long way to go, so it’s really just taking the game by match right now.”
Wednesday, players were still coming back from international service. The laity said that some would meet at the airport and that some would meet the Houston team.
It will be a busy week for Angel City, which is fourth in the NSWL ranking at 14 teams. After Saturday’s match in Houston, the team returns home for a Friday meeting with the Gotham FC.
“We have done an internal examination of the first three games of the team and individuals overall,” said the laity. “We know where the growth areas are. The key is that we continue to move forward. We have a really positive energy that comes out of the Seattle game.
“We know that Houston is going to be an extremely competitive game. The burden is on us to put our product on the ground and, if we do it, we will succeed. ”
