Diego Lopes and Yair Rodriguez had to involve security to separate them after the featherweights almost had blows during the press conference before the UFC 314 fight on Thursday.
While the two fighters are faced with different opponents on the à la carte map, the most lively time has occurred between them when Lopes was asked if Rodriguez could consider for his next opponent at UFC 320 in Mexico if he crossed Alexander Volkanovski. Wednesday, the War of Words degenerated after Rodriguez made comments during the UFC 314.
In response, Lopes retaliated on Rodriguez with a recall on his current record while he is preparing for a fight against former Bellator Patricio Pitbull champion of two consecutive defeats.
“How many losses does he have in a row?” Shouted Lopes. “How many losses in a row does he have?”
A fraction of a second later, Rodriguez was on his feet with a microphone in his hand while he was starting to shout lopes on the stage. Lopes then joined her while the fighters were starting to shout on it, with the security that quickly slipped between them.
“Tell it to my face!” Cried Lopes (via the translator of the UFC Fabiano Buskei). “Do you want to fight me?” Don’t talk about my team! “
The heated altercation continued, the fighters speaking Spanish while security tried to separate them to prevent a potential fight on stage.
After the end of the press conference with the fighters separating on two different sides from the scene for the usual players, Lopes and Rodriguez met.
For a moment, it seemed that cooler heads had prevailed while the fighters spoke, but it did not seem that things settled while the cries soon resumed with security removing the lopes from the interaction.
As much as he may have wanted to throw with Rodriguez in the moment, Lopes now turns all his attention to Volkanovski and the vacant title fights the headliner of the UFC 314 on Saturday. According to the result, Lopes could have the possibility of finally adjusting his resentment against Rodriguez with the UFC 320 – the last episode of the Noche UFC series – went to Guadalajara, Mexico, in September.
