The EU was one of the president’s initial targets, which he called during his garden roser speech to be “very difficult traders” and “pathetic”. Say what you want about Donny, but he is a real master of the left -handed compliment.
As soon as the news broke out, all the eyes of Brussels turned to the chairman of the commission and the Queen of European trade Ursula von der Leyen, who quickly replied that … She spoke the next day. EU citizens and companies felt very reassured.
The next morning, the whole continent (more or less) was stuck to their screens, phones or carriers of transporters of choice to hear what she had to say. Will the EU go for a tit-for-tat approach? Or will they offer something to calm Donny? VDL goes to Panican or panican’t?
Queen Ursula appeased the biggest fears of the masses by finally giving a simple and precise answer: the block was (insert a break for a dramatic effect) “prepared to answer”. He does not become clearer than that.
After a few days, the von der Leyen perpetually undecided and frighteningly tried another tactic: it went from the preparation to respond to the answer (perhaps), first offering a carrot in the White House and by offering to remove all the industrial prices on exports to the United States, then a stick in the form of replica prices. Now everything is pending for 90 days.
No one can say what, if necessary, will then happen. What we can say with certainty is that – if we know our politicians – any final decision will take some time and will probably not be final at all.
But if the queen of His Majesty Ursula is looking for advice, the answer is simple. Donny’s real intentions always lie in his “truths”: “Do not be weak! Don’t be stupid! Don’t be a panican ”and everything will be fine.
