For Walter Emanuel Jones, leaning like Black Ranger in the Mega Hit Power Rangers The franchise was nothing less than an honor.
The actor responded to the GROS manufacturing comments Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The writer Tony Oliver, who recently expressed his regret with regard to the perceived stereotypical casting of black and Asian actors to play black ranger and yellow tidying – namely Jones as Zack Taylor / Black Ranger and Feu Thuy Trang like Trini Kwan / Yellow Ranger.
Sharing screenshots of all titles on Oliver’s comments on Instagram, Jones challenged the idea that he was culturally insensitive and said that he considers him an important step of his time.

“While some choose to search for the negative, I have always believed in concentration on the positive,” wrote Jones. “I understand the impulse to approach what could be considered as a cultural insensitivity, but call it a ‘error’ ‘would reject the impact he had on countless people in the world who found the inspiration and the representation in the first black superhero on television – Morphin’ in none other than the black ranger!
Jones made his Black Ranger debut on Fox Kids’ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers In 1993 and appeared during the two seasons. Oliver and more creatives looked back on the development of the program and the casting in the episode of Power Rangers of the new documentation of the Discovery survey, Hollywood demons.
“None of us think of stereotypes,” said Oliver, the former editor-in-chief of the program, in the episode of Jones and Trang’s Casting, adding that it was his assistant who stressed the potentially problematic nature of it at a meeting one day. “It was such an error.”
Jones himself recently discussed the subject during an appearance on Jim Cummings’ Toon’d in it! Podcast last month. “Being in a black suit never disturbed me,” said Jones, sharing that he had also floated for blue and red costumes, but the characters did not quite adapt. “Black was what I wanted to wear.”
He also echoes a treat shared by Oliver in the Docuseries, which the Latina actress Audri Dubois had been presented as yellow ranging in the pilot but left the show due to a remuneration dispute.
