The register of national recordings its inducted in 2025, and there are geek sounds which will be immortalized in the Congress Library. The Microsoft Windows 95 Reboot Chime has been selected to be part of the register, just like the Minecraft soundtrack.
“These are the sounds of America – our vast story and our culture. The register of national recordings is the reading list of our evolving nation,” said the librarian of the Carla Hayden Congress. “The Congress Library is proud and honored to select these audio treasures worthy of preservation, including emblematic music in a variety of genres, field recordings, the history of sport and even the sounds of our daily life with technology.”
The Windows 95 start -up audio was composed by the Pioneer of Ambient Music Brian Eno. According to the presentation text of the Congress Library, the final sound clip was twice as long as Microsoft engineers asked the composer. But they continued with the chime because they felt that it “transmitted the feeling of welcome, hope and progress they envisaged” for this time of personal computer.
The alpha volume soundtrack to Minecraft is only the second piece of play music to add to the register. He joined the emblematic theme for Super Mario Broswhich was inducted in 2023. The launch audio of the popular sandbox game (which) was composed and interpreted by Daniel Rosenfeld under the name of the C418 scene.
