During a large part of Wednesday’s match, it seemed that the Seattle Mariners were heading for another defeat of the series, but in the end, they set up an astonishing return to ensure their first series victory of the young season.
Randy Arozarena struck a big slam in the eighth round, Julio Rodríguez equaled the match with a double of two rounds, based on the ninth, and Arozarena finished with a walking for a 7-6 victory against the Astros of Houston.

With the victory, the Mariners improved at 5-8 with the Texas Rangers at the head of Al West in town for a series of three games from Friday. And after the slow start type in Seattle left, it was a very necessary victory on a division rival.
However, the M remained equally for the end of their division. Here are three things that stand out from the first 13 games.
Assembly injuries expose problems
Before Wednesday’s match, manager Dan Wilson said there was never an ideal time for injuries. It’s true, but there are certainly worse moments than others. And for the navy, the start of the season was definitely the worst timing.
The M simply not have a lot of answers to fill the shoes of the injured Starter George Kirby, the right defender Victor Robles, the second goal Ryan Bliss and the readers Matt Brash and Troy Taylor at this stadium. With Jorge Polanco’s injury problems added, this is equivalent to a difficult situation that does not seem to disappear so soon.
Seattle simply does not have the depth near the level of the major league within its organization to resist a series of injuries at the moment. The agricultural system is loaded with better hopes much appreciated, including an eight eight in the top 100 of america baseball. But most of these players are still in the lower levels of the minor leagues, and the guys who have reached triple-A simply not been there very long.

The second goal player, Cole Young, entered on Wednesday with only 38 bats after the Double-A level, the receiver Harry Ford A 18 and the third basic player Ben Williamson. But unless the M is ready to bring him back to his academic post to the third goal, he does not really correspond to what the list needs to solve injury problems.
Call Young, Ford or Williamson at this stage would feel desperate, and this could potentially strengthen their development by exposing them too early to the majors. Ideally, these players would make their debut a few months if necessary.
And unfortunately for the navy, Kirby’s injury has become more a problem than originally planned. The old choice of first round Emerson Hancock and Luis F. Castillo gave Seattle a combination of 7 2/3 innings on three starts, which further aggravated the problems of an overused enclosure missing two lever lifts.
More necessary from the top of the order
With any above consideration, this team could potentially be in a much better situation if the top of the programming was better. Rodríguez, Cal Raleigh, Randy Arozarena and Luke Raley all hit. 200, and they had only 14 points combined before Rodríguez and Arozarena combined for the six points carried out on Wednesday.
The figures still wrapped when you look at what this group was with the runners in a rating position. They are 4 for 47 (an average of 0.085) with only three strokes (two come from Arozarena). The double Wednesday of Rodríguez was his first safe blow in 11 bats with runners in the score position this season, and Raleigh experienced a combination of 0 for 12.
Rodríguez had had difficulties in particular after some encouraging signs from the start. The central defender struck his third circuit of the season in the first round Sunday against the Giants, who was his 11th game of the season. It is the fastest that he reached three circuits in one season, and it was 42 games faster than when he took a terrible start in 2024. However, it was 0 for 15 with eight stick withdrawals between this circuit and the double game on Wednesday.
A reason for the hope in attack
Opportunities.
The navies have generated many chances in attack despite the fourth largest average in the team’s stick in the league at 0.200. Their 101 bats with runners in the rating position are ninth in the league, although their average stick of 0.129 in these situations is the last, and they only had two additional successes in these situations before the Grand Colem of Arozarena and the double Wednesday of Rodríguez.
But the team’s ability to make walks at a high rate and steal bases means that it always makes guys on the basis and in a rating position. The M are second in the league in walks (56) and equally in the third place in the stolen bases (20).
This lack of capacity to occur for a large part of these situations can make the team a frustrating watch sometimes, but the law of the averages says that these figures should swing in a fairly radical way.
Seattle has an average of 0.169 absurdly low on the balls involved with the runners in the rating position this year, which is simply not durable. The lowest that a team has had with runners in a score position in the last 10 seasons is 0.255 per cincinnati in 2015.
