Barcelona beat Borussia Dortmund 4-0 visitors in her Champions League quarter-final after Robert Lewandowski scored twice against his former club to win the Catalans a considerable lead before next week’s return visit to Germany.
Undessionned since the end of December, the Barca who hunted the triples predictably dominated the opening stages and took the lead with the Raphinha strike in the 25th minute. A series of savings from the Dortmund goalkeeper, Gregor Kobel, frustrated Barça for the rest of the first half.
Barcelona emerged more determined after the break and it only took them three minutes to score the second goal, Raphinha helping Lewandowski, who hosted his head at close range.
Lewandowski shines while Barce continues to run undefeated
The Polish striker extended his advance in the 66th minute just inside the box while Lamine Yamal wrapped another demolition work by Barcelona in the 77th.
“I think we have played very well, but we do not yet think of the semi-finals, we must keep the same goal and the same mentality that have brought us here so far,” Lewandowski told Movistar Plus.
“No matter where we play and what game is, we always want to play our football with the same commitment.
“Our state of mind is always going for victory and this is how we will play in Dortmund. We have to go and play as well as we have done it today or even better. ”
Barcelona experienced a superb 23 unbeaten game race in all competitions. They are the only team of the top five in Europe to lose in 2025 and are still in the running to win three titles.
They directed Laliga, four points ahead of Real Madrid which they faced in the final of Copa del Rey on April 26.
The Barça de Hansi Flick has now scored 36 goals in 11 games in the Champions League and 145 in 48 competition games, thanks to their attacker trident inspired by Lewandowski, Yamal and Raphinha.
On Wednesday, Kobel denied Lewandowski and Yamal at close range, but there was not much that he could not do when Raphinha fired on the goal line in the 26th minute.
Kovac deplores Dortmund bad performance
After the break, Yamal made an impressive race of the right wing before lifting a cross towards the rear post so that Raphinha turns through the goal, leaving an unmarked Lewandowski on the head on the centimeter line.
Lewandowski has extended his advance with a ball strike while Yamal has rounded up the blows with a tidy finish of a fast counter.
“This is a very difficult defeat,” Dortmund Niko Kovac told Movistar Plus.
“We expected more, but we have to be fair, Barça is a big team. Today, they have taken advantage of all the gifts we gave them, they are really effective in attack. ”
