“Twinless”, a twisted comic drama about twin twins, is in final negotiations to sell to the roadside attractions, to the acquisitions of the world on the edge of Lionsgate and Sony Pictures. The film has earned elegant criticism after having made its debut in Sundance this year, where it won the festival audience prize and the best performance price for Dylan O’Brien.
O’Brien, of “Maze Runner”, “Teen Wolf” and “Saturday Night”, plays in “Twinless” with James Sweeney, who also wrote, produced and produced the film. O’Brien plays identical brothers, including one meeting the character of Sweeney in a support group for people who have lost a twin. Aisling Franciosi, Lauren Graham, Tasha Smith, Chris Perfetti, François Arnaud, Susan Park and Cree Cicchino complete the cast.
If the agreement ends, “Twinless” should be published theatrically later this summer in the United States by roadside attractions, while Sony Pictures’ acquisitions will be distributed internationally.
Republic Pictures, a newly relaunched acquisition label under paramount, brought “Twinless” to Sundance and managed the sale. The other recent titles include the hostage thriller of Munich “September 5”, the music documentary “The Greatest Night in Pop” and the first director of Jake Johnson “self-restaurant”.
Before the first, O’Brien spoke of Variety On the challenge of playing two rooms. He embodies identical twin brothers Rocky, who dies unexpectedly, and novel, who must sail in unbearable sorrow without his other half.
“The twins were so distinct on the page. I felt such a different connectivity with each of them. It came really naturally,” said O’Brien. “For me, it’s very physical. Once the process starts in full speed with costumes, hair and makeup and things that James and I discussed in terms of walking, discussion and posture, which helps me. ”
Critics praised “Twinless”, with Variety Peter Debruge calling the “disarming” film. In his review, he wrote that “it is an act of tight tone meat, to say the least, because Sweeney balances an inadmissible behavior with a serious look at mourning, anxiety and anger management.”
Overall, this year’s market was relatively glacial with only a few films – “Perfect Neighbour”, “Train Dreams” and “Sorry Baby” among them – marking the distribution of Park City. Lionsgate and the roadside attractions also caught interior rights for “Kiss of the Spider Woman”, a musical remake of director Bill Condon and star Jennifer Lopez, after Sundance.
