Sarah Wynn-Williams, the former Facebook world public policy leader, plans to testify to the congress on Wednesday, detailing the allegations according to which the metadata helped China advance its AA capacities and undermine American national security.
Wynn-Williams, who worked on Facebook between 2011 and 2017, filed a complaint in March with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company, now Meta, said that it had been dismissed eight years ago for poor performance.
She also published a brief this month, “Careless people”, where she made allegations concerning Meta’s corporate culture and Chinese operations. A spokesperson previously told Business Insider that the “false book and defamatory should never have been published”.
In the heels of the release of the book, Meta won an emergency arbitration decision which temporarily prevented Wynn-Williams and his publisher from promoting memories or making derogatory statements against her former employer.
The decision did not prevent the book from becoming a bestseller n ° 1.
“This gap prescription was sought by a company whose CEO claims to be a champion of freedom of expression,” said the Wynn-Williams testimony project. “The American people deserves to know the truth.”
“The testimony of Sarah Wynn-Williams is divorced with reality and riddled with false claims,” a spokesman for Meta in a BI email. “While Mark Zuckerberg himself was public about our interest in offering our services in China and the details have been largely reported from more than ten years, the fact is as follows: we are not part of our services in China today.”
Wynn-Williams representatives refused to comment.
A draft opening of Wynn-Williams, which Business Insider has obtained, includes allegations that Meta has established a clandestine relationship with China, providing user data to the Chinese Communist Party and establishing a “physical pipeline” between the United States and China.
During the first term of President Donald Trump, the administration killed a Google and Facebook project which would have established a high speed cable of 8,000 miles between the United States and Hong Kong.
Below, the opening project of Wynn-Williams which she plans to give before a judicial subcommittee of the Senate:
President Hawley, member of the Durbin ranking and distinguished from committee members, thank you for the opportunity to speak to you today. My name is Sarah Wynn-Williams, and I was director of global public policy on Facebook, now Meta, for almost seven years from 2011. During these seven years, I saw metadata undermined American national security several times and betraying American values. They did these things in secret to win the favor of Beijing and build a company of $ 18 billion in China. We are engaged in an AI arms race for high issues against China. And during my stay in Meta, the leaders of the company lied to what they were doing with the Chinese Communist Party to employees, shareholders, congress and the American public. I sit before this committee today to set the record straight on these illegal and dangerous activities. Meta’s dishonesty began with a betrayal of basic American values. Mark Zuckerberg signed up as a champion of freedom of expression. However, I witnessed Meta Work “Hand in Glove” with the Chinese Communist Party to build and test tailor -made censorship tools that have silenced and censored their criticism. When Beijing demanded that Facebook remove the story of an eminent Chinese dissident living on American soil, they did it. Then lied to the Congress when the incident was questioned during a hearing in the Senate. The desire for censorship was not the only disturbing thing that I have witnessed. I watched the leaders decide to provide the Chinese communist party with access to meta -users – including that of the Americans. Meta does not dispute these facts. They can’t. I have the documents. No more recently than on Monday, they said they did not function in China. Another lie. In fact, they started to offer products and services in China in 2014. It did not stop. Their DSA deposits of last year show that China is now the second largest Meta market. Meanwhile, the Meta – Llama – IA model – has significantly contributed to Chinese advances in AI technologies as Deepseek. Facebook’s secret mission to enter China was called “Project Aldrin” and was limited to need staff. There was no bridge too far. Meta built a physical pipeline connecting the United States and China. Meta leaders have ignored the warnings that this provides access to the Chinese Communist Party, allowing them to intercept personal data and private messages from American citizens. The only reason why China does not currently have access to American user data via this pipeline is that Congress has intervened. Meta began to inform the Chinese Communist Party in 2015. These briefings focused on critical emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. The explicit objective is to help China surpass American companies. There is a straight line that you can trace from these briefings to recent revelations that China develops models of military use, based on the Meta Llama model. Meta’s internal documents describe their sales argument to explain why China should allow them on the market by citing “Aid) China increases global influence and promote China’s dream”. The truth about what happened in China is important. I filed a resolution of shareholders asking the Meta board of directors to investigate its activity in China. And I filed complaints of denunciation with the dry and the doj. The measure of the importance of these truths is directly proportional to the ferocity of Meta’s efforts to censor and intimidate me. I relied on their commitment given in 2018 that they renounce their rights to continue forced arbitration. Despite this public commitment, they brought a file against me for hundreds of millions of dollars. Now they have a legal gap order which makes me silence while Meta and their attorney spread over me. This order is so vast that it forbids me to speak with members of the Congress. This gag prescription was requested by a company whose CEO claims to be a champion of freedom of expression. The American people deserves to know the truth. Meta was willing to compromise its values, to sacrifice the security of its users and to undermine American interests to develop its Chinese activity. This has been happening for years, covered with lies and continues to date. I am here at considerable personal risks because you have the power and the power to keep them responsible. Thank you for your time and your attention to this critical question.
