The current government of Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala was one of the most common allies in Ukraine in its fight against the continuous invasion of Russian President Vladimir Putin – and Prague’s coalition is home to increasing concerns that Babiš would stimulate this support.
“Babiš said he would stop the ammunition initiative … He could not say it on public television When he presented himself to the presidency, he would engage in article 5 if Poland was attacked by (one) enemy and he was, as, very vague on this subject, “he added.
Lipavský, who has been seated in government as independent since his former Pirate Party had left the coalition, told Politico that he presented himself as a candidate for the current ruling coalition in the elections. It will represent the civic democracy of the center-right (OD) as part of a large attempt to prevent Babiš back in power.
But the surveys carried out by the STEM research institute based in Prague suggest that Babiš – which was Prime Minister between 2017 and 2021 – dominates the surveys at 31.5%, with the Fiala spolus coalition in 20%.
The date of the elections has not yet been officially fixed, but should take place in September or October.
“I think that in these difficult times, our country needs solid leadership, European leadership, leadership which proves that we are able to support Ukraine, standing (up) in Russia, for example, part of the coalition of (the) will, because the current Prime Minister is able to deliver this,” added Lipavský.
