In the final analysis, the quarter-back of the contract that Geno Smith signed with the raiders is not much better than the contract that his replacement in Seattle, the quarterrier Sam Darnold, signed with the Seahawks.
Smith could probably have been able to get this same affair, or something close, if he had stayed in Seattle. However, there was another wrinkle at stake.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Smith wanted to find the coach Pete Carroll.
This does not mean that Smith has deliberately exceeded his contractual negotiations with the Seahawks in the hope of being exchanged in Las Vegas. But that was part of the overall reflection process for Smith.
And it worked.
The warranty structure has also helped. Seahawks generally only guarantee the first year of an agreement. For Darnold, it was and is $ 37.5 million. For Smith, it was and is $ 58.5 million.
However, Smith wanted to work again with the coach who chaired Smith finally becoming a clear QB1. Whether it means that they will be together for a year or two years or three years or more, remains to be seen. But Smith obtained more security in Las Vegas than he would have obtained it in Seattle.
