On Friday, the Israeli army struck the south of Beirut for the first time since November, after Israel said that two projectiles had been dismissed from Lebanon.
The Israeli Defense Forces (FDI) said that it “had struck a terrorist infrastructure site used to store drones by the Hezbollah air unit (127) in the Dahieh district, a terrorist bastion of Hezbollah in Beirut.”
The FDI said that Hezbollah “systematically integrates its terrorist infrastructure in the middle of the Lebanese civilian population, a clear example of the cynical exploitation of Hezbollah of Lebanese civilians as human shields.”
The strike occurred after Israel accused Hezbollah of having launched two attacks by rockets in southern Lebanon which crossed the border of Israel. Hezbollah denied him and said he was attached to his cease-fire with Israel.
Shortly before the strikes on the capital of Lebanon, the FDIs expressed evacuation orders to Lebanese residents in a district in the south of Beirut.
“To all those located in the building marked in red on the map, as well as in the surrounding buildings: you are close to the installations affiliated with Hezbollah,” said the FDI. “For your safety and safety of your families, you must evacuate these buildings immediately and move to at least 300 meters, as indicated on the map.”
The region is home to a number of schools. The Lebanese government suspended the courses on Friday after the evacuation order of Israel, saying to “all students, teachers and administrative staff” to leave the region, according to the Lebanon NNA press agency.
Israel also said on Friday that he had struck the “Hezbollah command centers, terrorist, launcher and terrorist infrastructure sites” in several places in southern Lebanon. An Israeli strike on Kfar Tebnit, in the southern governorate of Nabatiyeh, killed three people, including a woman, reported NNA, citing the Lebanese Ministry of Health. At least 18 other people were injured, including six children and eight women.
According to an Israeli official, Israeli official Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz and other officials convened on Friday for a safety assessment on Lebanon.
Katz said that in response to the two projectiles drawn from Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel, the capital of Lebanon Beirut would be “treated in the same way”.
“If there is no peace in Kiryat Shmona and in the communities of Galileo, there will also be no peace in Beirut,” he said, a statement from the Ministry of Defense.
The Lebanese army said on Friday that it had found a site for launching rockets from which projectiles could have been dismissed on Israel, adding that it “began an investigation to determine the identity of those who launch them”.
The army added that Israel’s strike on Lebanon represents “a blatant and repeated violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and the security of its citizens, a challenge to international law and a flagrant violation of the cease-fire agreement.”
Hezbollah said on its telegram that the incident seems to aim to create “pretexts for the continuation of the Israeli aggression against Lebanon”.
Lebanese president Joseph Aoun said that after Friday Israeli strikes, his government was in contact with US officials concerning the ceasefire who entered into force in November.
“There is a ceasefire in place, and the two parties should respect the agreement,” said Aoun.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu said on Friday that her country would “attack” in Lebanon in response to any threat against Israel everywhere.
“Those who have not yet internalized the new situation in Lebanon have today received another example of our determination,” said Netanyahu. “We do not allow us to shoot our communities, not even a burnt … We will attack Lebanon everywhere against any threat to the State of Israel, and we will ensure that all of our Northern residents return to them safely.”
Tensions have increased in the region in recent weeks after the most important eruption of violence between Israel and the militant group supported by Iran since a ceasefire signed four months ago brought difficult border.
Israel has carried out dozens of strikes, mainly in southern Lebanon on what he calls the targets of Hezbollah, from the ceasefire.
On Thursday, the Israeli army hit several vehicles in southern Lebanon because it claimed to target Hezbollah activists in the region. At least six people were killed, the Lebanese state media reported.
Israel and Hezbollah exchanged cross -border attacks for more than a year after the launch of the War of Israel in Gaza in October 2023.
In September of last year, Israel launched an intense field and air campaign, decimating the leaders of the militant group and killing more than 2,500 in the following months, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in November 2024 led to a significant reduction in violence. However, Israel continues to maintain a military presence in several places in southern Lebanon, although he agreed to withdraw within the framework of the ceasefire agreement.
