The return of Long Beach State does not face the UCSD – Orange County Register

La Jolla – A short -term long -term state team gave first place UC San Diego a fear before not failing in a defeat of 70-63 Thursday evening at the Arena Readree of the UCSD.

Devin Askew scored a summit of 29 points to lead Long Beach (7-24 in total, 3-16 Big West), which reduced a deficit of 22 points in the second half to four points in the last minute, but lacked time and lost its 14th consecutive match. Derrick Michael Xzavierro added 11 points, 11 rebounds and two shots blocked, Kam Martin collected eight points and Austin Johnson succeeded in a summit of 12 rebounds.

Tyler McGhie and Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones scored 20 points each for the Tritons (27-4, 17-2), which won their 12th consecutive match and won at least a share of their first Big West title with a match to be made in the regular season. Hayden Gray pulled 3 for 7 from the arc to finish with nine points.

With only nine adapted players – two have not played – for the penultimate match of the season, Long Beach produced a Gutty effort but harmed its cause with 20 reversals (13 in first half). The newts opened an advance of 21-13 in the first half on a point of 3 points McGhie, but LBSU fell in the four years before a point of 3 points McGhie in the buzzer gives the UCSD an advance of 33-23 at halftime.

The UCSD extended its advance at 58-36 on a pointer of 3 Aidan Burke with 10:48 on the left, but Long Beach started to fight. LBSU used an 11-1 race to reduce the margin to 63-54 on an Askew lay-up with 5:45 going up and he added a 3-point less than a minute later to make a six-point match. The newts pushed their advance at 10 points with 2:20 to play, but the visitors continued to fight.

Askew converted a pair of free throws after a technical fault from the UCSD, then Martin made a lay-up to reduce the advance to 67-61 with 1:52 on the left. McGhie, Askew and Tait-Jones all missed 3-point shots on the following three possessions, but Askew made a rider with 28 seconds to obtain the LBSU in 67-63.

Long Beach was forced to defeat, and McGhie divided a pair of free throws with 26 seconds before Martin is missing a 3 points. McGhie then made two other free throws with 13 seconds to finish the score.

Long Beach has exceeded the UCSD 41-27, but has always been outstanded in the paint for a night when the two teams pulled below 40% of the land. LBSU pulled 18 for 49 on the ground (36.7%) and 7 for 23 of the 3 -point range, while the newts pulled 22 for 56 (39.3%) and 10 for 33 behind the arc. Long Beach made 20 of its 22 free throws compared to 16 for 21 for the UCSD.
