The letter, dated March 6, is the most complete defense so far from the European Commission to American criticism, responding to the request of Jordan for an explanation of the EU of its laws.
“The objective of the application of the DMA, as in any other EU law element, is to ensure compliance – not to issue fines,” they said, stressing that they are “fully committed” to enforce the law.
“We are convinced that the European Union and the United States share the common objective of preventing the harmful effects of monopolization,” they said.

Apple, Meta and Google are currently surveyed on their compliance with the DMA, faced with a deadline of March 25 for a decision.
A group of EU legislators wrote to the Prosecutor General of the United States Pam Bondi and the head of the US trade Howard Lutnick to emphasize that the DMA “is not designed to target companies according to nationality” and also governs ByĆ©dance in China in a letter of March 5.
“American companies benefit not only from the DMA, but also actively call on its application,” they said, quoting Disney, Netflix and Epic Games as potentially benefiting from the law.
