Phoenix – For about a decade, Bruce Bochy counted on Buster Posey like the backbone of the Giants of San Francisco on the ground. Now, entering his third year as manager of the Texas Rangers, Bochy will be responsible for beat the teams that Posey creates at the San Francisco front office.
“I was excited to Buster,” Bochy said at Cactus League Media Day on Arizona Biltmore a Waldorf Astoria Resort. “Obviously, I think it’s a good decision because of what I think of Buster. He will do a great job. He is intelligent. He knows the game. He has a good idea of people.
Bochy admitted that he had never thought of the possibility that Posey becomes the president of the Giants’ baseball operations, but believed that Posey would have the ability to play any role he wanted.
“There is no ceiling on him,” said Bochy. “It was just a question of what he wanted to do.”
Bochy was a manager of Posey for all 11 seasons of the major league except one, winning three World Series titles in five years with Posey as a starting receiver. Posey played 1040 games with Bochy as a manager between the regular season, achieving almost all the chapters of his career at the renowned temple under the Bochy watch.
While Bochy and Posey are technically competing against each other, they will both have the opportunity to celebrate one of the best stops in the history of the franchise later this season.
Brandon Crawford announced his retirement on social networks in November and April 26, the Giants will honor Crawford in Oracle Park. Appropriately, the giants have planned the event to coincide with Bochy, who managed Crawford for nine seasons, and the rangers being in town.
“I’m really, really happy that I’m here to watch,” said Bochy. “I cannot thank him enough for what he did for our team, for me – his leadership, his game. It will be pretty cool. I can see the fans recognize him and thank him for what he did. These are interesting offers. I appreciate the moment of this.
From 2012 to 2019, Bochy wrote Crawford in the departure formation – all at the COURT stop – 1100 times, or about 85% of the regular season games in San Francisco, by far the most of all players for this period. It also does not include the 38 times that Bochy started Crawford in the playoffs. Over time, Crawford would become the record for most of the matches played at the stop in the history of the franchise.
With the observation Bochy of the Pirogue, Crawford helped the giants to win the titles of the World Series in 2012 and 2014 and orchestrated some of the most memorable moments in the history of the franchise in the process. When Oracle Park’s Jumbotron broadcasts a montage of highlights of Crawford’s career, the big slam of the crowd of the crowd of the stop against the Pittsburgh Pirates during the 2014 Joker game and the iconic double game with Joe Panik in match 7 of the 2014 World series will be before and at the center.
“He helped us put two rings on our fingers, but really, defensive coherence,” said Bochy. “Every day he was there. I probably wore him sometimes because he did not have many days off. He never said a word. Its striking clutch; He had a talent to drive in the big race. For the most part, he struck at the back of the order and made things happen. It is one of those guys that you are grateful that he is in your club. “”
