President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he had ordered the Treasury Secretary Scott to stop the production of new money.
“For too long, the United States has had sub-frappes that have literally cost us more than 2 cents. It is so a waste!” Trump wrote in a social article of truth.
“Let’s tear off the waste of our budget from the big nations, even if it’s a penny at a time,” he added.
Trump’s announcement comes for weeks after the Elon Musk government’s Ministry of Government, or DOGE, has criticized the manufacturing costs of money.
DOGE said in an X Post on January 22 that the production of subsidians “cost US taxpayers more than $ 179 million” during the year 2023.
It would not be the first time that Washington has been trying to stop getting cents.
In 2017, Senator Mike Enzi of Wyoming and Senator John McCain of Arizona presented a bill that would have suspended the production of new money for a decade. The bill has not advanced.
