The Schwesing air base is a high-value target for surveillance due to the training of patriots carried out there. Germany has already delivered several patriotic anti -missile defense systems in Ukraine, which play a crucial role in the fight against Russian air strikes.
According to the Munich -based newspaper, military officials believe that drones were technologically advanced and not standard commercial models, raising suspicion of spy supported by the state. Some defense officials believe that newly discovered drones may have been launched from ships in the North Sea or Baltic, Süddeutsche said.
Safety officials observed an increase in drone activity near military facilities. A few weeks earlier, drones were spotted on the American air base in Ramstein, a critical installation of NATO logistics, which prompted the German government to write a legal amendment allowing the Bundeswehr to shoot down suspect drones.
Incidents highlight the gaps in the defense capabilities of German drones. Internal Bundeswehr reports indicate that key counter-drone systems, including winger and radish detection tools, did not respond effectively, according to Süddeutsche Zeitung.
The German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius admitted that improving the defense of drones is a priority but has admitted that progress remains slow. In response to Schwesing’s incidents, Germany has deployed additional detection and jamming equipment at the base.
