Los Angeles (AP) – President Jimmy Carter won a Grammy Award.

Before his death, Carter was nominated in the audio book, the narration and the recording category of narration to the Grammys 2025 for “Last Sunday in Plains: a Centennial Celebration”, recordings of his last lessons from the Sunday School Delivered to Maranatha Baptist Church in Georgia. The musicians Darius Rucker, Lee Ann Rimes and Jon Batiste are presented on the disc.

It is the fourth Grammy de Carter. His posthumous Grammy joins his previous three for speaking Word Album.

If the former president won before his death, he would have become the oldest winner of a Grammy Award in history.

Jason Carter, the grandson of Jimmy Carter who now chairs the board of directors of the Carter Center, received the award on his behalf. “Having your words captured in this way for my family and for the world is really remarkable,” he said in an acceptance speech. “Thank you to the Academy.”

In the category, Jimmy Carter beat Barbra Streisand, George Clinton, Dolly Parton And producer Guy Oldfield.

If Streisand won instead of Carter, it would be his first Grammy victory in 38 years.

Currently, the oldest person to win a Grammy was Pinetop Perkins, 97, in 2011.

“He’s a huge fan of music. He likes the creative aspect of music, “said Jason Carter behind the scenes of his grandfather. “It was an important part of his political life, an important part of his personal life. He is an artist in many ways. »»

Former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton have two grammys each. The first ladies Michelle Obama and Hilary Clinton also won each.

Former presidents Harry S. Truman, John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon were all nominated, but did not win.
