Ontario will draw all the American alcohol from its alcohol shelves managed by the government from Tuesday in response to the 25% prices of US President Donald Trump on Canadian imports.
The points of sale of the Ontario alcohol control office will also eliminate American products from its catalog so that other retailers cannot command or reaplivinate these items, according to a Sunday press release from Prime Minister Doug Ford.
“Each year, LCBO sells a value of almost a billion dollars of American wine, beer, spirits and Seltzers. More now,” said Ford. “There has never been a better time to choose an incredible Ontario Canadian manufacturing or manufacturing product.”
Ford’s announcement occurred a few hours after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau slapped the 25% reprisal prices against $ 155 billion in American goods.
The LCBO is one of the largest alcohol wholesalers, selling more than 1.1 billion liters of alcoholic products in Ontario in 2023. The second main export destination of the United States for alcohol in October 2024 is Canada, with a commercial value of $ 25.9 million, according to the OEC.
In a press release provided to CNBC, the LCBO said that it would stop all the sales of online American alcohol products and in “indefinitely” stores, adding that it is “the record importer” for American alcohol in Ontario. LCBO is currently listing more than 3,600 products of 35 American states, added the press release.
