Sometimes it is not an honor just to be nominated.
The Golden Raspberry Awards, commonly known as the Razzies, have announced their nominations for the worst films and filmmakers of 2024, with a five-way tie for the most (dis)honors per film. The Villains Musical Joker: Folie à Deuxthe expensive passion project Megalopolisvideo game adaptation Borderlandsthe superhero movie Madame Weband the presidential biopic Reagan each racked up six nominations, including Worst Picture.
They also got several nods UnfrostedJerry Seinfeld’s product placement experiment, with four nominations, and director Rupert Sanders’ ill-fated reboot of The Ravenwith two.
Most nominations in the acting, writing and directing categories came from the above titles. Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga were individually nominated for Worst Actor and Worst Actress, and earned a nomination together in the Screen Combo category for Folie à Deux. Cate Blanchett and Dakota Johnson were recognized for their lead performances in Borderlands And Madame Webjust like Seinfeld and Dennis Quaid for Unfrosted And Reagan.
Interestingly enough, the only artists to receive individual nods from Megalopolis arrived in the Supporting Actor category: Shia Labeouf, whom the nomination body was keen to highlight in his interpretation of part of his role in drag, and Jon Voight, whose four 2024 credits were listed jointly (Megalopolis, Reagan, Shadow LandAnd Strangers).
Reagan Director Sean McNamara was the only director of one of the top five nominated films not to receive a Worst Director nod, his spot being taken by Seinfeld for Unfrosted. In the same way, Borderlands scribes Eli Roth and Joe Crombie were the only members of the five to be overlooked for the Worst Screenplay award, their place being taken by the team of screenwriters behind Kraven the Hunter (Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk).
