Capital One acknowledges ‘outage’ as users report deposit access issues

Capital One said an unspecified technical issue was hindering access to customer accounts as some users reported problems with direct deposits.

In response to complaints on social media platform

Later Thursday, the company released an official statement to X regarding the issue.

“We are experiencing a technical issue with a third-party vendor that is temporarily affecting certain account services, deposits and payment processing for parts of our consumer, small business and commercial banks,” it said.

According to Downdetector.com, which tracks reports of user complaints about digital services, the problems began around 6 a.m. ET on Thursday, with some 2,000 reports observed.

The site said the frequency of reports began to stabilize around 9 a.m.

A bank spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment from NBC News.

The problems at Capital One come a day after Citibank acknowledged an issue affecting customers’ ability to access their accounts from mobile devices, as well as an apparent problem with fraud alerts. Although the mobile access issue appears to have been resolved, a Citi representative said on X on Thursday that it was still working to resolve the fraud alert item.

Earlier this month, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau sued Capital One, alleging it misled customers about its savings account offerings. Capital One has denied the allegations.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
