Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan underwent emergency surgery at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital following a knife attack at his Bandra residence early Thursday morning. The 54-year-old actor suffered multiple injuries during a confrontation with an intruder around 2:30 a.m. local time.
According to police officials, Khan discovered the intruder in his 11th floor apartment and attempted to intervene during an altercation between the suspect and housekeeping staff. The encounter resulted in Khan receiving several stab wounds, with one injury reported near his spine.
A team of specialists carried out a 2.5 hour procedure, with additional plastic surgery taking place. Hospital officials confirm that Khan is now in stable condition.
The Mumbai crime branch launched a parallel investigation alongside local police, deploying seven teams across the city. Authorities are currently reviewing security footage and questioning members of the household staff.
“The actor and the intruder got into a fight. The actor is injured and is being treated. Investigation is underway,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam told news agency ANI.
Khan, a three-decade veteran of Indian cinema, hails from one of Bollywood’s most important dynasties. Son of cricket star Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and actress Sharmila Tagore, he made his film debut in 1993 with ‘Parampara’. His breakthrough came with the 1994 films “Yeh Dillagi” and “Main Khiladi Tu Anari”, which established him as a leading figure in Hindi cinema.
Throughout his career, Khan has won acclaim for his performances in films like “Dil Chahta Hai” (2001), “Kal Ho Naa Ho” (2003), “Hum Tum” (2004), for which he won the Indian National Award for Best Actor. , “Omkara” (2006) and “Tanhaji” (2020).
