The British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) nominations were announced this morning, and Focus Features’ Conclave dominated almost every category with 12 nominations in total and Emilie Pérez comes just behind with 11 nominations, including a historic nomination for trans actress Karla Sophia Gascón. Wicked, Anora, And The Brutalist also appeared frequently in the nominations this morning, signaling their continued favor this season and likely their Oscar nominations later this month. Wildfires raged across Los Angeles and put the entire season in jeopardy, but the awards shows will go on despite the devastation. However, several shows have already announced simultaneous fundraising efforts to coincide with this season’s ceremonies.

Although many of this morning’s nominations were expected, the lack of names for Angelina Jolie, Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman and Challengers could indicate likely snubs later this month. We will have to wait until they are announced on the new postponed date of January 26.
The BAFTAs will be awarded on February 16, 2025 at a ceremony to be held at the Royal Festival Hall in London’s Southbank Centre.
