Tommy Rees apparently won’t follow Mike Vrabel after all.
The Cleveland Browns are promoting Rees to their offensive coordinator role, Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reported Tuesday.
Rees was considered a potential coordinator candidate for the New England Patriots after working with Vrabel in 2024. Rees, who most recently served as a passing game specialist and tight ends coach with the Browns, was interviewed for the position last week.
Rees did not interview with the Patriots, who hired Vrabel on Sunday and introduced him Monday.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported in mid-December that Rees could follow Vrabel wherever he went. Breer reported the same thing after Vrabel was named New England’s head coach.

Former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has also been linked to Vrabel’s staff. Vrabel said Tuesday he would begin the search for his coordinators immediately, but indicated the process could be lengthy.
