Designed to promote women’s empowerment and self-reliance (aatmanirbharta), the program aims to create self-employment and livelihood opportunities. It is universal in scope and provides financial assistance to one woman from every family in Bihar to help them start or expand income-generating activities.
The Prime Minister launched the project virtually from Delhi, with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other ministers expected to join him through video conferencing from Patna.
An initial grant of ₹10,000 will be provided, with the possibility of additional support of up to ₹2 lakh in later phases, officials said. The initiative will be community-driven, with training provided by resource persons affiliated with self-help groups. To facilitate the sale of goods and services, rural markets (gramin haats) will be further developed.
The launch comes amid a flurry of development and welfare announcements by the NDA governments at the Center and in Bihar, ahead of the upcoming national elections, as the ruling alliance seeks to retain power.
