Brendan Allen shook up the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight division, handing Reinier de Ridder his first promotional defeat by earning a technical knockout (TKO) after the Dutchman’s corner deemed him unable to continue before the fifth round.
De Ridder was visibly exhausted in his neutral corner at UFC Fight Night in Vancouver on Saturday night, leading to the sudden end of the mixed martial arts (MMA) main event.

Allen (26-7 MMA) avoided the devastating kickboxing ability of de Ridder (21-3 MMA) by using his wrestling and controlling de Ridder with strikes from top position.
De Ridder had few answers for the American fighter, as Allen stepped in at short notice after replacing compatriot Anthony Hernandez (15-2, 1 MMA no contest).
“It feels good to do exactly what I said I would do,” Allen said. “That was three and a half weeks off the couch for me. I told you I was a different monster. When I have a clear head and we’re there, I’m the best in the world.”
With the UFC middleweight stalemate in full effect, Allen said after the fight that he did enough to earn a title shot against champion Khamzat Chimaev (15-0 MMA).
“Come and get it, baby,” Allen said.
De Ridder had not lost for 19 months.

In the co-main event, welterweight Mike Malott (13-2-1 MMA) dodged a bullet in avoiding a no-contest against Kevin Holland (28-15 MMA) after the cut of Holland’s protective shorts was compromised by a Malott leg kick that went wrong early in the fight.
An attempted arm-triangle choke from Malott in the third round was also not enough to secure the victory. Malott was ultimately awarded the highly competitive five-round fight by decision: 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.
Aiemann Zahabi won his bantamweight fight by decision against former title challenger Marlon Vera (23-11-1 MMA). The final score gave Zahabi the victory by a judges’ score of 29-28, 28-29, 29-28.
At women’s flyweight, former title challenger Manon Fiorot (13-2 MMA) delivered a devastating TKO over Canada’s Jasmine Jasudavicius (14-4 MMA), set up by a flurry of punches to secure the stoppage victory at 1:14 of the first round.
