Gemini Appears Early on Google TV With Multiple Voices (Gallery)

Ahead of a promised wider rollout “later this year,” Gemini has shown up early for at least one Google TV user, offering a quick look at the setup process.

Google TV is adding Gemini as a replacement for Google Assistant, with new features and capabilities on the way. However, the upgraded AI assistant is currently only available on one Google TV device – the TCL QM9K series, which starts at $3,000 (but is already $1,000 off). Officially, the feature is expected to be available on other devices “later this year” for devices running Android 14.

But it seems we are approaching a broader beginning.

A Sony Bravia owner reports that Gemini for Google TV has appeared on his TV. The user posted screenshots of the Gemini setup process that include more information on how it differs from the Assistant experience, a warning about the unreliable nature of the AI’s generative responses, a toggle allowing Gemini to use personal data, and a prominent UI for choosing Gemini’s voice on your TV. There are 10 total votes for Gemini on Google TV, matching the number found on mobile devices. The names and descriptions of Gemini voices on Google TV are a little different from what you’ll find on mobile, however.

The lists compare as follows:

Gemini Voice on Google TV

  • Flowering: Calm, Mid-range
  • Oxalis: Bright, mid-range
  • Fern: warm, taller
  • Magnolia: calm, deeper
  • Purple: British accent, mid-range
  • Pothos: engaging, mid-range
  • Calathea: Australian accent, superior
  • Yarrow: warm, deeper
  • Croton: smooth, deeper
  • Amaryllis: bright, taller

Gemini voice on Android

  • Nova: Quiet, Mid-range
  • Pegasus: engaged, deeper
  • Ursa: Committed, Mid-range
  • Vega: Bright, higher
  • Eclipse: Energetic, mid-range
  • Capella: British accent, superior
  • Orbit: energetic, deeper
  • Dipper: Engaged, deeper
  • Orion: Bright, deeper
  • Lyra: Bright, higher

The Gemini voice listing on Google TV doesn’t directly match the listing on Android, but instead leverages the voices found on Nest speakers.

Google last updated the list of Gemini voices on mobile in September 2024, but made further changes to the voices available on speakers as recently as August of this year.

The correlation of Gemini voices on TV sharing the same roster as speakers makes sense and certainly provides a nice layer of cohesion between speakers and TVs, especially as Google TVs with built-in “Hey Google” functionality become plentiful.

As it stands, though, this is the only public report we’ve found of Gemini streaming on a Google TV device other than TCL’s new flagship. The user who spotted it has already enabled new features on Samsung devices, but no complaints have been made regarding the TV. This seems to be the case could an unfinished version, however, as the Gemini logos visible on the voice selection page have not been updated with Google’s new style. Then again, a recent Google video on the feature also showed an outdated logo in use.

If you see Gemini on your Google TV device, let us know in the comments below and which device you are using.
