A helicopter flying over a popular Southern California beach suddenly began spinning out of control, eventually losing altitude and crashing into a row of palm trees as beachgoers looked on.

Videos posted online show the plane beginning to circle over Huntington Beach, then plunging toward the edge of the beach, where it became stuck between palm trees and a staircase near the Pacific Coast Highway.

The Huntington Beach Fire Department said five people were taken to the hospital, including two who were in the helicopter, and were “safely removed from the wreckage” after Saturday’s crash.

Three people in the street were injured. Details about their injuries were not immediately available.
