The government of Tamil Nadu is once again addressed to the Hindu voters of the State by offering them a pilgrimage sponsored by the State, a few months before the next elections in the State Assembly.

The department of Hindu religious charities plans to take the faithful of the Tamil Nadu to the pilgrimage of Rameswaram to Varanasi and return, for a free spiritual trip of 10 days by train. 600 tickets are to be won for the year ended in March 2026.

“They (the selected pilgrims) will take a sacred bath in Rameswaram and will have the Darshan of Swami, then will go to Kashi and take the Darshan there and will be deposited again in Rameswaram,” said a HR & C official in Dinamalast, a Tamil daily.

Interested pilgrims can download the application form from the website or recover it at the Office of the HR & C respective regional office.

The duly completed file must be submitted to the office before October 22.

Eligibility:

The applicant must be a Hindu aged 60 to 70 with an annual income of ₹ 2 Lakh or less.

Applicants must submit proof of income, age and medical condition.

The required documents include the Aadhaar card, the Pan card, the mobile phone number and photos in passport format.

Applicants should not have benefited earlier from the free spiritual journey sponsored by the government.

The free train offer for pilgrims is the last in a series of announcements made by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government (DMK) led by the chief minister MK Stalin to defeat anti-stings and the challenge of new rivals like the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam led by the actor who became a politician Vijay.

You can find out more about recent announcements here.

On August 22, Stalin participated in the launch of 17 new projects by the Department of Hindu religious and charities, for a total expenditure of 124.97 crores ₹.

The new projects include the construction of waiting areas for the faithful, pavilions, conference rooms and parking lots in important temples such as the Arulmigu Arunachaleswara (Tiruvannamalai) and the Arulmigu Nachiyar temple (Srivilliputhur).
