Warren, Michigan (Wxyz) – Stellantis temporarily dismissed 900 Midwest plant workers, including employees of Warren and Sterling Heights.
The automaker announced the news in an email sent to all employees earlier this morning. They say they will take a production break at the Windsor assembly plant in Canada for the next two weeks, with operations covered on April 21.
Due to this break, workers from Warren, Sterling Heights, Indiana and Mexico are affected.
“With the new rates in the automotive sector now in force, we will need our collective resilience and our discipline to go through this difficult period,” said Antonio Filosa in email. “But we will quickly adapt to these policy changes and protect our business, keep our competitive advantage and continue to provide excellent products to our customers.”
7 News Detroit asked how many employees have been dismissed at the Michigan factory, but a representative of the automaker did not disclose these details. Stellantis says that they will provide updates as the situation progresses.
