84-year-old man arrested in East Boston for stabbing

An 84-year-old man faces several charges in connection with a stabbing in East Boston on Friday.

Boston Police said officers responded around 3 p.m. Friday to a report of a person stabbed near Brandywyne Drive. When officers arrived, they found a woman suffering from what appeared to be a life-threatening stab wound to her neck.

Police said the woman was taken to a local hospital where her injuries were later determined to be non-life-threatening.

An 84-year-old man, whose name has not been released by authorities, was arrested in connection with the stabbing and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife); assault and battery on a person over 60 years old/injured disabled person; armed assault in a dwelling; and assault to the point of murder.

According to The Boston GlobeThe woman told police that the man, who also lived in the Brandywyne Drive area, came up behind her as she entered her home, grabbed her and stabbed her in the neck.

Police said the man was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and will be arraigned in East Boston District Court.
