8-month-old child among 4 family members kidnapped in California: sheriff


Northern California authorities are looking for four family members, including an 8-month-old girl, who were abducted for unknown reasons.

No motive is known, the sheriff said. Merced County is located between San Francisco and Fresno.

Authorities have released footage of the unknown kidnapping suspect.

“It is imperative that we get information on this. So far, to my knowledge, no contact has been made, no ransom demands, nothing from the suspects,” the sheriff said.

The sheriff’s office announced Tuesday that Amandeep Singh’s truck was found on fire shortly before noon Monday.

Police attended Amandeep Singh’s home around 12.35pm on Monday; although they could not locate him, they spoke to another relative, the sheriff’s office said. When the relative could not reach Jasleen Kaur, Jasdeep Singh or Amandeep Singh, the relative reported them missing, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff’s officials then responded to a case, and “during the primary investigation, detectives determined that the individuals were kidnapped,” the sheriff’s office said Tuesday.

“We have detectives investigating, we have planes looking for evidence. People are going to work around the clock until we have a break,” he said. “We need to get this family home safely.”

The FBI, California Department of Justice and local law enforcement are involved in the search, the sheriff’s office said.
