(CNN) – A Texas woman makes history this weekend as the oldest contestant in the Miss Texas USA pageant.
Marissa Teijo is 71 years old.
She is from El Paso and is the oldest contestant to ever compete for the state title.
Teijo grew up on a farm. She developed a passion for fitness at a young age and has participated in several fitness competitions over the years.
The 71-year-old is competing against nearly 100 competitors for a chance to become the next Miss Texas USA.
The competition, which will last two days, is expected to run until Saturday.
