70-year-old retail chain to close all stores

A 70-year-old company is closing its doors.

Bob’s Stores, which has locations across the Northeast, is closing all of its stores and liquidating all of its inventory as part of a Chapter 11 restructuring petition filed June 18.

The company said that despite changes to the company’s structure and operations, Bob’s Stores has been unable to secure the financing needed to maintain its operations.

“We regret that our financial situation has necessitated the liquidation of Bob’s Stores,” said Dave Barton, president of Bob’s Stores, in a press release. “Bob’s has been a pillar of our local communities for nearly 70 years, and we know our customers remember us as being there for the important moments in their lives. We remain grateful to our vendors, suppliers, customers and employees for all their support over the years.”

Bob’s stores began selling their products in-store on June 28, with discounts ranging from 30 to 70 percent. The company sells clothing and footwear. Some equipment, furniture and store fixtures will also be available for sale.
