6 people suffer from smoke inhalation in City Heights fire

Six people were inhaled by smoke when a fire ripped through a home in City Heights on Tuesday afternoon, firefighters said.
The fire was reported around 2:30 p.m. on 45th Street, just north of Orange Avenue. San Diego Fire Department Battalion Chief Ty Shimoguchi told OnScene TV that there may have been four or five people hunkered down in the house.
When firefighters arrived, the fire was “well involved” in the kitchen and living room, Shimoguchi said.
Crews brought the fire under control around 2:50 p.m.
“Firefighters did a great job preventing it from spreading to nearby homes,” spokeswoman Mónica Muñoz said.
At least two of those who inhaled the smoke were taken to hospital for treatment, Muñoz said. Others were treated on the spot.
The cause of the fire was under investigation. No other information was immediately available.
