Six people were taken to hospital, and at least one of them was in critical condition. Police said no suspects were in custody.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Six people were shot during a concert at an Oregon event venue on Friday night, and the suspected shooter was not yet in custody, police said.

Officers responded to WOW Hall in Eugene after reports of a shooting around 9:30 p.m., police said in a statement.

“What law enforcement found when they arrived on the scene is exactly what you would expect when six people have just been shot,” said Eugene Police Chief Chris Skinner at a press conference. “People are just trying to get out of here, their friends are out there trying to help.”

Six people were taken to hospital, and at least one of them was in critical condition, Skinner said. The extent of the other injuries was not immediately clear.

The shooting happened in a back parking lot outside the venue, police and WOW Hall officials said.

A concert featuring Lil Bean & Zay Bang, and other artists, was taking place in the venue at the time.

Police said no suspects were in custody. Skinner described the “chaos” when officers arrived and said investigators hadn’t received much information from potential witnesses.

WOW Hall released a statement on its website acknowledging the shooting but declining to speculate on details.

“We at WOW Hall want to thank all of the first responders who came out so quickly to keep everyone safe and administer first aid,” the post read. “We believe all staff and volunteers are safe and taken care of.”

Investigators have not determined whether the shooting was random or targeted, the police chief said.

Eugene is located approximately 110 miles (177 kilometers) south of Portland, Oregon.
