6 boating outfits to wear this summer

Summer is so close we can practically taste the salt water and caprese. This year we are preparing to embrace the European summer lifestyle and spend as many days as possible on the boat, sipping chardonnay and soaking up the sun.

Wherever your adventures take you, make sure you have a cute outfit on deck. In an age where there are so many aesthetics to choose from – Yacht Girl, Garden Girl, Polo Club vibes – the options are limitless, making choosing your outfit that harder. Not to mention that practicality comes into play when sailing the blue ocean. The heat of the summer sun requires cover-ups like caftans and slippery floors require practical yet chic summer sandals and shoes. Should I continue?

“Whether you’re on the French Riviera or Nantucket, there are a few key pieces in your wardrobe that are boating must-haves,” says stylist and creative director Lex Alexandris. “A crisp white shirt is my favorite. I love that it’s a little oversized, that it pairs nicely open over a swimsuit and just as well with a sarong or casual pants. And leave the wedges at home: barefoot on a boat is the ultimate cool girl move. Indeed, adding touches of nautical whimsy is not only welcome for sailing or strolling by the sea, but it also offers countless styling options that are as cute as they are practical.

Above all, having a personal style is essential, which is why we spoke with expert stylists to map out warm-weather fits to suit all your sailing needs. Keep reading to get inspired!

There’s just something so nautical about stripes. Boats and a striped tee make a fabulous fashion combination that has withstood the sartorial tests of time. The classic pairing is the iconic duo black and white, but try thinking outside the box with a pop of color or pair it with bold, chunky jewelry to give your cut a bit of modern edge.

Whether you’re looking for a cover-up, a short, flirty dress, or a chunky sweater to stay warm when the sun goes down, knitwear is just as versatile in summer as it is in winter.
