Bogota – An earthquake of 6.3 magnitude struck Colombia Early Sunday, the authorities said. No victim was immediately reported.
The earthquake struck 17 kilometers (10.5 miles) northeast of Paraatebueno, a city at around 116 miles in the southeast of the capital, Bogota. The American geological service reported that the earthquake struck at 8:08 a.m. (1308 GMT) at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).
The Colombian geological service reported additional tremors with amplitudes ranging from 4 to 4.6 in the same area a few minutes later.
The national unit for disaster risk management declared that it evaluated the situation in several municipalities.
The images published on social networks showed people in Bogota who felt the tremor – some have left their workplaces to seek security. Images of rural areas indicated that there was no damage.
Colombia is in the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for its frequent seismic and volcanic activities.
