5 Illinois Cities Named Among America’s 100 Best Places to Live – NBC Chicago

Five Illinois cities were named among the 100 Best Places to Live in America – and several nearby Midwestern locations were also selected.

According to city ranking site Livability, Naperville, Evanston, Bloomington, Peoria and Champaign were all named among the best places to live in the country.

The rankings, based on “nearly 100 data points,” included measures of the economy, housing, cost of living, amenities, transportation, safety, education, health and even more.

However, it only included “small and medium-sized towns with a population between 75,000 and 500,000”. Cities also had to have a median home value of $500,000 or less, a factor determining an area’s affordability, according to the list.

“We also analyze average rents and housing prices relative to income in each city, as well as other factors that influence the cost of living,” the group said.

Other Midwest locations to make the cut included Carmel, Indiana; Fishermen, Indiana; Troy, Michigan; O’Fallon, Missouri; Bloomington, Minn.; Rochester, Minn.; Cedar Rapids, IA; Madison, Wis.; Ann Arbor, Michigan; Appleton, Wis.; Iowa City, Iowa; Duluth, Minn.; Bloomington, Ind.; and St. Paul, Minnesota.
