Colorado: Five people were killed on Saturday night at a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs, USA, when a gunman opened fire. Another 18 people were injured in the mass shooting at Club Q.

Authorities reportedly received “numerous” 911 (emergency) calls around 11:57 p.m. and they reached the site, Colorado Springs Police Lt. Pamela Castro said.

According to CNN, Castro said: “They have located an individual who we believe is the suspect inside. At this point, the suspect is being treated but is in custody. The official, however, did not specify whether the suspect was included in the count of those injured in the shooting.

Footage emerging online shows a large deployment of police and ambulances lining the streets outside Club Q, the nightclub where the shootings took place.

The incident happened on Transgender Remembrance Day (TDOR), which is marked on the 20e November each year to remember those who have been killed because of transphobia.

Reacting to the dismissal, Club Q, in a statement on social media, said it was “devastating by the senseless attack on our community”, and further offered its condolences to the victims and their families.

“We thank the quick reactions of the heroic customers who subdued the shooter and put an end to this heinous attack,” the statement read.
