5 Cybertruck promises that Elon Musk has never delivered

The Cybertruck has changed a lot since Elon Musk unveiled it for the first time in 2019.

Tesla’s first pick-up, which was finally launched in November 2023, experienced a rocky deployment, with several reminders and the first challenges in production production.

Cybertrucks for sale at the moment have less range and a much higher price than Musk initially planned, the cheapest model available costing almost $ 70,000 compared to the $ 39,900 that Musk has promised.

Here are some of the Cybertruck features that Musk has spoken over the years that has failed to materialize.

1. A price of $ 39,900

When Musk unveiled the Cybertruck for the first time in 2019, he said that the cheapest version would cost $ 39,900, with more advanced variants costing $ 49,900 and $ 77,000.

But that didn’t work. In 2023 Tesla sent a version of the $ 120,000 series of Cybertruck foundations and said its cheapest model would actually cost $ 60,990 and arrived in 2025. Tesla recently published its long -range version of Cybertruck, which has a price of $ 6,9990. The cyberbeast, its most expensive version, costs around $ 100,000.

The price increase has disappointed many Tesla fans and has done cybertruck something of a status car on arrival. Now that the market has become more saturated and the truck has been targeted by political counterpouss, some consider the EV too expensive.

2. 500 miles beach

Musk also said in 2019 that the most advanced tri-engine version of Cybertruck would have a range of 500 miles.

This would have made it one of the oldest electric vehicles on the market, but it was a promise that Tesla did not deliver.

The car manufacturer announces the long -range cybertruck of $ 69,990 as having around 350 miles in range, with around $ 100,000 “cyberbeast” at 301 miles.

Tesla had previously planned to offer a “range of reach” of $ 16,000. The battery was sitting in the vehicle’s truck bed and increased the range of the vehicle to more than 470 miles. In October, Tesla reduced the beach to 445 miles and delayed it from the start in the middle of 2025.

In early May, Tesla canceled the product and refunded pre -orders.

3. Cyberquad

Musk put an end to the 2019 Cybertruck event with a surprise unveiling of the “Cyberquad”, a Tesla Quad Bike.

The billionaire wrote at the time on X that the cyberquad would be a two -seater mountain bike which would be released at the same time as the truck.

Tesla has published a children’s version of $ 1,900 of the Cyberquad, which now costs $ 1,650 and has already been faced with a reminder, but the full-size quad-bike has not yet materialized.

4. Cybertruck works like a boat

One of the most catchy promises made on musk on the cybertruck is that it could float and serve as a boat for short periods.

Tesla’s CEO wrote on X that the pick-up would be waterproof enough to “cross the rivers, the lakes and even the seas which are not too agitated”.

Although Cybertruck has a “friendship” which allows drivers to cross 30 inches of water for a limited period, it is far from being worthy of the sea.

Musk does not seem to have abandoned this functionality, however, by publishing on X last in December that Tesla would publish another upgrade which would allow the Cybertruck to “cross at least 100 meters of water as a boat”.

He reiterated his potential in April when he responded to a video on X of a cybertruck leading to a lake.

5. Crab step

In 2021, Musk wrote on X that the initial production of Cybertrucks would have four engines, one for each wheel, which allows it to turn 360 degrees like a tank and to move diagonally like a crab.

But this feature has never managed to get out of the Tesla drawing board. Cybertruck chief engineer, Wes Morrill, said in April that Tesla had experienced the functionality but could not find practical use.

“We played with this in development, but no matter what we have tried, it was an awkward / clumsy experience without cases of real use,” he wrote in an article on X.

Tesla did not respond to a request for comments to Business Insider, sent outside normal working hours.
