4 SAPD officers injured in Stone Oak shooting, police say

SAN ANTONIO – Four San Antonio police officers were shot on the North Side, according to SAPD Chief William McManus.

The shooting happened shortly before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex in the 18700 block of Stone Oak Pkwy.

At a news conference just after 10 p.m., McManus said officers responded to a suicide call in progress from a family member.

The first officer arrived on scene and was shot in the lower extremity, McManus said.

A second officer also arrived and was shot, according to McManus. A third and fourth police officer arrived later and were also shot.

The fourth officer suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body, SAPD said.

All four officers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, McManus said.

McManus said the four officers had between four and eight years of service with the department.

According to McManus, the crime scene is still active. A SWAT team is setting up a perimeter around the complex, the chief said.

A Stone Oak resident told KSAT he heard “a big bang” while studying in his apartment, but didn’t pay much attention to the noise.

“My mom, she lives with me, so she told me to go out (on) the balcony,” the resident said. “She heard all these noises. Indeed, there are (sic) like helicopters flying everywhere.

Moments later, the resident reported hearing several gunshots.

“It was two or three o’clock,” the resident explained. “I was like, ‘Hey mom, those are gunshots.’ I looked down the hall and sure enough, I saw that one of the SAPD officers was (sic) on the ground and had been shot. It looked like he had been shot in the upper thigh because they were putting a tourniquet on him.

McManus said some residents of apartments near the shooting were evacuated. Police also suggested residents near the Stone Oak Parkway shooting stay in their apartments.

This is a developing story. KSAT will update this story as more information becomes available.
